Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana once again choose Maestro Giuseppe Tornatore to convey their unconditional love for Beauty through the expert eye of his camera. The relationship of close friendship and mutual esteem between the two Designers and the Oscar-winning Director – always present in the most important moments in the history of Dolce&Gabbana and author of memorable spots – returns to intertwine on the big screen after the cameo in the bus scene in “The man of the stars” (1995) and materializes in the making of the film “Devotion”, with the unreleased music of another great Oscar winner, the unforgettable Maestro Ennio Morricone.
Filmed predominantly in the heart of Palermo and at the foot of the great Cathedral of Monreale – a crossroads of cultures and repeatedly an inspiration for the Designers’ creations, thanks to its artistic syncretism – the work tells the infinite love of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for Sicily, an inexhaustible source of their creativity, and the tireless passion for their work: an intimate journey to discover an authentic dimension far from the spotlight of fashion.
A daily work completely devoted to the human touch, to that Beauty that machines, alone, will never be able to emulate. A path furrowed by joys, afterthoughts, brilliant intuitions and deep respect for tradition to be preserved from the wear and tear of time.
It is on this path that the story of the film unfolds, under the watchful eye of the camera and that of mysterious figures who curiously observe the Designers at work in the tailor shops, revealing otherwise imperceptible sensorial relationships. A narration in which the unmistakable ornaments and scenes of the deeds of the paladins painted on the Sicilian cart often return, pressing, humble means of transport that becomes a work of art and an epic tale of the history of the island in the hands of the artisans. A powerful image and a strong cultural symbol, the perfect meeting pointbetween Sicily and Dolce&Gabbana.
From these suggestions, the Designers draw heavily, weaving their elements with other cultures, other languages, other stories. “Devotion” is an ode to the feeling of absolute devotion of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and to the unique universe of knowledge and emotions contained in their creations.
The film has been presented on exclusive preview on July 18th 2020 at the Ancient Theater of Taormina, in an event hosted by the Regione Siciliana, Taormina Film Fest and Fondazione Taormina Arte, with Monica Bellucci as guest of honor and a special performance by Il Volo.
“Devotion” will then be screened in August, throughout the most beautiful squares in Sicily, in the context of a wide-ranging cultural project of artistic, folkloric and enogastronomic promotion, under the creative direction of Dolce&Gabbana and under the patronage of the Regione Siciliana.
