Espadrilles have been made in Pyrennean Catalonia and the Occitania region since the 14th century at least, but the oldest, most primitive form of espadrilles dates as far back as 4000 years ago. This timeless piece of footwear has seen many interpretations in its long life, and Dolce&Gabbana lent their creativity and talent to reimagining the espardilla for the urban gentleman. Traditional espadrilles have a canvas upper with the toe and vamp cut in one piece and seamed to the rope sole at the sides, but Dolce&Gabbana have experimented with a different material.
The Rainbow Suede Mondello, named after a beautiful borough of Palermo, is crafted in summery materials with luxurious details like calfskin and rope finishing. What makes the shoes so particular is the perforated suede crafted from the underside of the skin which results in a silky soft touch for the ultimate comfort.
